Our Collections Manager Sandra is in California this week, and is naturally taking the opportunity to visit some their amazing museums: LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) has a fantastically diverse and huge collection, spread across - wait for it - NINE buildings. A couple of special exhibitions (including Treasures from Korea: Arts and Culture from the Joseon Dynasty 1892-1910) and coffees later, we started to work through the permanent collection in the Ahmanson Building. On the third floor there were half a dozen 1st-2nd century AD Roman sculptures, including Herakles, Athena, Artemis and Mercury (Hermes). With our current exhibition from the British Museum, The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece, it was great to see some complementary pieces.
