Our Comment: As Washoe County runs one of the most successful shelter systems in the country, to continue to focus on animal welfare and care is critical. Because of the Highway 80 animal trafficking corridor and the rural nature of Northern Nevada, there are many and growing issues we need to address to make sure this area continues to deserve its place as a region where animals are treated with the respect and kindness each and every one of them deserves. As we wish to see California companies come here we need to look at what makes areas like Los Angeles and San Diego so attractive. Both have a ban on the sales of dogs, cats and rabbits in retail stores and the entire state has outlawed the distribution and sale of food created by force-feeding an animal, such as foie gras. washoecounty.us/mgrsoff/strategicplan.html
