Our Daily Food for the Soul for today, August 19, 2014: PACING - But many who are first will be last; and the last, first. Matthew 19:30 -:- I have joined several running races in the past years. It is normal for all the runners to become hyped up right bfore the gun start, but what separates the newbies from the more experienced ones is how they run the first kilometer. First-time runners usually sprint the first leg of the race & eventually slow down, & at times, walk it out until the finish line. The veterans, meanwhile, pace themselves from the first step & end up finishing strong & with a good running time. The first runners to take off usually end last & the slower starters reach the end sooner. In our faith life, it is good to be reminded that there is a finish line out there. Just like in distance running, the lonely miles will come. There will be times when the temptation to throw in the towel is just too strong. Times of thirst & fatigue &even why-am-I-doing-this moments.,be reminded of what awaits us, or better yet, who awaits us at the finish line. Jesus will be there cheering us on & welcoming us wirh a warm embrace! -:-:-:- Dear Jesus, may we all reach the finish line no matter how long our journey may take. We want to be with You! Amen. -:-:-:- (WISE WORDS: There is no need to be dismayed if love sometimes follows torturous ways. Grace has the power to make straight the paths of human love.) Saint John Paul II
