Our Declaration of Incorporation The Olympia Coalition for Ecosystems Preservation is established to preserve through advocacy and organization the vanishing ecosystems of the Great Blue Heron and related species in an increasingly crowded urban setting. As such, the Olympia Coalition for Ecosystem Preservation recognizes that the Great Blue Herons in Olympia are an integral part of a larger ecosystem that includes the woods at West Bay, Schneider Creek and the nearby shoreline, including the dammed tidal waters of the Deschutes River Estuary. We will perform advocacy on behalf of the Great Blue Heron, and the preservation and restoration of that ecosystem, including advocating and organizing for the conservation of the West Bay Woods and Schneider Creek in a public trust. In coordination with other advocacy groups in Olympia and Washington State, we will work to assure that the larger ecosystem remains a vital feeding ground for these birds in perpetuity. We will also provide input to Olympia City to amend or enact ordinances to assure the livelihood of Washington State defined “priority species”, including the Great Blue Heron though advocacy and by coordinating the involvement of scientists, neighborhood associations and other civic organizations.
