Our Dinner Conversation during a Meal Out the other night: Me: Now, Chrissie, tomorrow, we have to try all of your school uniform on, including shoes and EVERYTHING you’re going to need for school, so we can see what doesn’t fit anymore and we’re going to need to buy before school starts again. At least we won’t need to buy trainers because you just got a new pair before we went to Center Parcs at the beginning of the holidays, HOPEFULLY. C: Why are you saying “Hopefully”? Me: Well, cos your feet may have grown in the past 6 weeks and your trainers might not fit you anymore. C: They DO Fit Me! They WILL Fit Me still. I LOVE my new Purple & Green Trainers! Me: But You DON’T Have Purple & Green Trainers! I don’t think you Ever Have, come to think of it. Your trainers are WHITE! Don’t you remember, you insisted on getting them even though I told you they were going to be hard to keep clean and that I’d rather you got something with a darker colour? C: But They ARE Purple & Green! Me: (Thinking Hard & Fast) Ahh,… maybe you’re thinking of Lucas G’s football boots that he often wears in the school taxi,… they’re Purple & Green. Maybe you’re so used to seeing them that you’re confusing yours with them. C: No. Mine ARE Purple & A Bit Green! Me: (Really Trying to think Harder Still) Oh, yes, they ARE a bit Green on the outside; there are some accents of Green on the logo and such-like, but otherwise, they’re Completely WHITE. C: But it’s ALL Purple Inside! Me: (Finally Switching my Auty Brain On & Seeing the Light Bulb) Oh, you mean the ankle support linings that we put in your trainers when we bought them?! Yes, they’re Purple, but otherwise the trainers are almost Entirely White! C: My Trainers ARE White, aren’t they? Me: Yes,… pretty much. C: I Do KNOW They’re WHITE, but Every Time I think of them, ALL I See is Purple & Green! I don’t know why that is. It’s VERY Strange! Do you know why that might be? Me: Maybe your brain is registering the stronger and brighter colours more than the white, although they’re actually more white than anything else. You do know that’s very common for autistic people, don’t you? C: Yeah,… I know,… but it’s STILL Strange!
