Our Emergency Services Unit was at Wantagh Park on Saturday - TopicsExpress

Our Emergency Services Unit was at Wantagh Park on Saturday afternoon to rescue a young Osprey that was tangled for hours in fishing line on top of a 75-foot light pole. The fledgling Osprey was trying to fly but got caught in fishing line that looked to be part of its nest. Sergeant Lawrence Zavadoff and Police Officer William Stio of ESU responded and were able to cut the bird free with the assistance of the Wantagh Fire Department. The osprey was suffering from a leg injury and was turned over to Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation (WINORR), a non-profit volunteer organization who provide professional care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife. They will nurture the bird back to health and set it free after its recovery. Great job Sgt. Zavadoff and Police Officer Stio! Thanks for helping our feathered friend!
