Our Farmer Field Day, held at the end of September, was a great success with many rural grass roots farmers and urban dwellers attending demonstrations of our innovative agricultural and aquaculture practices for sustainability in food production, at our Mtopanga Training Centre. Visitors were able to visit our 1000m2 horticultural and agricultural plot yielding field crops such as sorghum, maize, rice and sunflower. Showcasing our aquaculture systems, visitors were able to see our Family Fish Ponds and our Aquaponics Tent. We demonstrated our Biogas system and visitors were able to see Agrichar and Biochar being made together with ways to make compost. Other areas of interest available throughout the day were the growing of indigenous fruits and vegetables, mushroom growing, medicinal plants and experimental seed beds, the keeping of livestock (sheep and goats) and dairy farming and our free-range poultry keeping system. We welcomed members of the Ministry of Agriculture and of Education, the Kenyan National Farmers Federation, the Coast Water Services Board and other esteemed organisations.
