Our Good News Story of the Day is Beyond Black and White. With all the focus on Ferguson lately, it’s great to share this positive story about a police officer right here in DeSoto and a widowed, elderly woman named Dorothy Shepard. The two met when Officer John Holder stopped by her home on a welfare check earlier this year. He told her if she ever needed anything, to give him a call. So she did, the very next day. She needed a ride to the doctor and to the store. He took her. In fact, he’s taken her to just about every doctor’s visit and grocery store run she’s made for the last six months. And he’s not always picking her up in his black and white squad car. Officer Holder drives his new friend around, when he’s off work. That’s going above and beyond the call of duty.
