Our Greyhound Art of the Week is Portrait of Lord Rivers Coursing at Newmarket With His Friends, 1818, oil on canvas, by Jacques-Laurent Agasse (1767 - 1849). Agasse, whose work has been featured here previously, was Swiss, but went to Paris at age 20 to study in veterinary school and learn about the anatomy of horses and other animals. Some years after he returned to Switzerland, a rich Englishman asked Agasse to paint his favorite dog which had died. The Englishman was so pleased with his work that he took the painter to England with him, and there he lived for many years. This work is in the Museum of Art and History in Geneva.
