Our Halton Residents Association (OHRA) OHRA would like to - TopicsExpress

Our Halton Residents Association (OHRA) OHRA would like to invite you to a meeting at The Wilsons, Bridge Street, Runcorn, Cheshire on 24th January 2015 at 11am to 12 noon to discuss our concerns we have over the incinerator and traffic pollution in our area. We are extremely concerned about the health of our children, especially from Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM 2.5) pollution coming from industrial combustion (the incinerator and Ineos) and diesel engine combustion, the increase in HGV traffic of up to 400 extra lorries per day to the incinerator. I personally have had correspondence and a meeting with the Chief Executive David Parr and the leader of the Council Rob Polhill in request as to why we do not have a monitoring system to record the levels of these deadly pollutants in Halton i.e. Runcorn or Widnes. Mr Parr was adamant the council complied with UK legislation and at present have no plans to monitor PM2.5. (the silent Killer please have a look at this video https://m.youtube/watch?v=nnoGUVBUiGM). While at our meeting it was inferred they would look into the funding of a number of PM2.5 monitors but when I followed this up by email, including a link to a radio four news item which discussed how Councillor Dawson (Conservative) Frodsham Council and a colleague did not accept the Environmental Agency pollution data so they commissioned an independent analyses to highlight pollution Hot Spots in Frodsham from the incinerator, Ellesmere Port and Stanlow. The results of their findings resulted in Mr Dawson and his colleague to take money from their budgets to install two monitors at schools to ensure the children were getting clean air to breath. The answer I got from Halton Borough Council (Labour) was; I listened to this when it was broadcast Thank you for bringing it to my attention The Councils position on air monitors is unaltered. You will recall, as the DEFRA letter to Derek Twigg MP states, Halton is acting appropriately in respect of AQM At the present time the Council does not propose adding to the existing general air monitoring regime it operates The EA will, of course, continue to monitor air quality from the industrial plants in the Borough David Parr Chief Executive Clearly the councillors in Frodsham council have more concern over the health of children than Halton Council, Why? We have in the borough aged population who suffer from breathing difficulties, made worse in the winter months by the damp air which holds the silent killer PM 2.5 in greater concentrations. Maybe our Labour councillors feel this group of citizens need culling (Mr Parr does not live in the borough so his family are safe from his actions here). A chemical expert campaigning against an incinerator at Ince Marshes in Cheshire says he “feels sorry” for Runcorn. Professor John Dearden was speaking after the Government granted permission for IneosChlor to build a £330m waste-to-energy incinerator at its Runcorn plant. The professor, who specialises in medicinal chemistry at Liverpool John Moores University, said: “I feel very sorry for Runcorn, it was already the cancer capital of the country and they are going to plonk another plant slap bang in the middle. “It is unbelievable.” The problem we have in Halton is our councillors do not listen to the residents, especially in Runcorn. They are quite happy to pocket approximately £723,413.88p yes nearly three quarters of a million pounds between 56 councillors over the past four years they have pocked nearly three million pounds (£2,850,622.92p)They are extremely hard to get to attend community meetings called by the public (none would attend the NO TOLLS meetings nor the Incinerator), maybe this was because it was Council/Government policy to put tolls on, and on the incinerator they clearly did not want to upset the Ineos representative on their independent remuneration committee . Maybe we in Runcorn should be looking at breaking away from Widnes (we have our own Town Hall) and linking up with Frodsham Council who clearly listen to the concerns of their electorate and act accordingly (monitors now in place). Expectant mothers should be extremely concerned what these pollutants are doing to their unborn child, I am no expert but the experts are concerned! Please come along and if you can’t make it send someone who can represent you, the children of the borough are depending on us to act on their behalf because they cannot vote. Regards from OHRA
