Our #HappinessArchive is full of positive stories (share yours at goodthinkinc/story) and I share one of the stories with you today. Will you consider sharing yours after reading? Eighteen months ago I started working with a coach to tackle a big change in my life. I started a consultancy to work with an Italian client and very quickly, beyond a language barrier, there was a tremendous cultural divide that no language course could have prepared me for. Unhappy with how I dealt with things, I found it difficult to get out of bed, and eventually do much at all. In hindsight, I realized I needed to reset my meaning markers, if not clearly define them. By working with a coach (who credits Shawns research as a guiding force in her practice), I was able to regain clarity in my life, reset my meaning markers, and finally get to a place where I was functioning -- happily. I credit a practice of yoga (minimum of 10 sun salutations most days), meditation (whenever I feel anxiety creeping in), mindful planning (I devote Sunday afternoon to this and make it a fun affair) and investing more time in my friendships. I also write about home, and through my exploration of how we live in our homes, Ive learned a lot about the importance of creating nurturing environments in which our vision can bloom. Ive lived in Atlanta for the last five years, and this weekend I move to L.A. That said, Im keeping my beautiful downtown Atlanta place. To me it represents my hot-house years, where many of my dreams have come to life and where my friendships have blossomed. One of my dreams was to have two very different places to call home. Its funny that this has become a reality much sooner that I would have ever imagined and I credit it to my new positive approach to problem-solving. Whenever that feeling of doom creeps into my life, I stop, acknowledge the feeling, and then envision three things that I am happy about. Very often this practice illuminates a perspective Ive never considered, and well, isnt that what we call inspiration? -Mary Warner
