Everyday Products to Avoid: Oven Cleaner – contains many dangerous ingredients. Use a self-cleaning oven or put cookie sheets under foods to catch drippings etc.. Oil based and lead-based paints – 300 toxic and 150 carcinogens Use water-based latex or low VOC paints Shoe Polish – look for less toxic products made from beeswax or use olive oil or nut oils Household pesticides – esp bug foggers Nail Polish Remover – use in well-ventilated area and look for options from the health food store Dryer Sheets and Fabric Softeners are some of the most toxic products around – instead use ¼ cup of baking soda to soften and ¼ cup of white vinegar to rinse to eliminate cling Cleaning Products – loaded with caustic detergents, harsh chemicals and toxic residues Fragrances Harmful Chemicals Found in Consumer Products that are Known Carcinogens Phthalates – endocrine disrupting chemicals often used to soften plastics (plastic wrap, children’s toys, shower curtains, raincoats, shoes etc) and in fragrances, hair spray and nail polish Benzene – nail polish and remover Bisphenol A – containers and packaging 1,3 Butadine – rubber sponges 1.4 Dioxane – petroleum derived used in shampoos, body wash, children’s bath products Ethylene Oxide – fragrance Synthetic Musks such as xylene, ketone, ambrette, moskene, tibetene N-Nitrosamines – creams, lotions, shampoos and conditioners Nonylphenol – lotions and many other products Parabens – creams, lotions, ointments and cosmetics Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons – petroleum jelly, lipsticks, baby lotion Placental Extract – hair conditioners, shampoos 1,2 Propylene Oxide – fragrances Titanium Dioxide – sunscreens, mineral make-up Triclosan – antibacterial soaps, toothpaste, mouthwash etc..
