Our January Thaw (week of above average temperatures across most - TopicsExpress

Our January Thaw (week of above average temperatures across most of the U.S.) and warmest 3rd week of January in 5 years is about to come to an end! First up is a clipper type system originating out of Manitoba Canada tomorrow that is going to head toward the Virginia coast Monday with a band of light to moderate snowfall. These storms are affectionately called Manitoba Maulers similar to Alberta Clippers only usually a bit stronger. This one will indeed be a lot stronger. From here models are going crazy with explosive development off New England with the classic HIGH pressure over LOW pressure that typically leads to bigger snow storms - first good set up weve seen all Winter. If you live just Northeast of New York City throughout New England we could be looking at a blizzard Monday into Tuesday! Further Southeast from Central Virginia to New York City including New Jersey we could be looking at the heaviest snowfalls of the season (including coasts) but not as epic as the potential in New England. We will have many updates in the days ahead but anyone living from VA to Maine should get a tad prepared for a prolonged period of snow, potential power outages and then this... THE COLDEST START TO FEBRUARY IN 8 YEARS. Very likely well see some sub-zero temperatures as far south as Southeast PA and Central NJ as the month comes in like a crazed Polar Bear...thats worse than a Lion! ;) Any luck its too cold for the Groundhog to come out of his hole on 2 February which would mean no shadow and Spring is close. Keep you posted. - Kirk out.
