Our Japan trip is nearing an end. Apart from an extraordinary experience both with my wife and kids; otosan and okasan; and extended family and friends; this visit also provided a profesional education. I attended several civic events and visited 3 city halls. I was able to befriend a Tokyo City Councillor at an annual childrens festival; meet with a Public Relations Officer to see Winnipegs official declaration as a sister city to Setagaya, Tokyo; and meet several community leaders throughout Japan. I have done some fishing, but I have also studied a lot about how the worlds most efficient and crime free cities operate. I have witnessed some of the most coehisive communities; a train/subway/bus system that carries hundreds of thousands of people without delay; municipal emergency preparedness; mega infrastructure projects; many succesful corporations; packed small businesses and restaurants on every corner that never seem too busy to provide outstanding products and services-- I am more than excited to be bringing these lessons home to share new ideas and a vision for the future of our city Winnipeg.
