Our Lady of Perpetual Help Wax Museum By: The OLPH Fifth Grade Class Each year, Mrs. Cathi DeGloma and her fourth grade class create a living wax museum. Mrs. DeGloma chooses a theme and the students choose a historical figure to portray. To prepare they research facts, create a short speech and a poster presentation. They also dress up as their notable person. Visitors simply press a golden star on the wax figure and are presented with a mini-biography of the character’s life and accomplishments. This year’s theme was “People Who Changed the World” and the fourth graders chose wonderful role models for their topics. Through this interactive event, OLPH students and parents were able to meet extraordinary figures including Jacques Cousteau, Walt Disney, Anne Frank, Amelia Earhart, Mother Mary, Mahatma Ghandi, Pope John Paul II, Princess Diana, Shirley Temple, Davy Crockett, Nikola Tesla, Steve Jobs, Neil Armstrong, Julliet Gordon Low, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. The fourth graders had a blast with their wax museum and taught everyone so much about people from the past. Visitor comments included “We loved it! The presentations were so impressive!” and “My daughter’s interest was sparked by Amelia Earhart. We are headed to the library.” Fourth grade parent, Jennifer Warne remarked, “The wax museum was amazing.
