JOB POSTING POSTED: May 22, 2013 Position Title: Summer Dance Coordinator Reporting to: The HopeWorks Connection’s (HWC) Performing Arts Coordinator in conjunction with the Weston Frontlines Centre (FL) Summer Coordinator Employment Period: June 25 – August 16, 2013; 5 days/week Application Deadline: June 14, 2013; 5:00pm Position Overview: As a Summer Dance Coordinator, you will serve on a team of 3 to develop, deliver and implement summer performing arts programming to children and youth ages 6- 15year old, with an emphasis on Afro-Caribbean drum & dance. Key Responsibilities As a Dance Coordinator you will be responsible for a variety of program planning and administrative tasks: Selecting, planning and instructing dance classes; Observing youth to determine physical and artistic capacities in order to plan programs and activities to meet their needs and aspirations Supporting participants in achieving a higher level of personal development; Providing a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment in the development of dance and drum from practice to performance Helping to source, secure and coordinate costumes, props, and supplies as needed Encouraging youth toward an enhanced appreciation of various dance forms and Afro-Caribbean drumming; Selecting music suitable to the over-all mission/vision of the organization and its partnersHelping to mentor, support and recruit participants 1844 Weston Rd. Toronto ON M9N 1V8 ~ frontlines.to ~ 416.244.7017 Working in conjunction with FL’s summer program staff in regular day camp programming as assigned Coordinating with youth counsellors and volunteers Assisting with special activities and events (i.e. fundraisers) Supervising groups of various sizes Attending all staff meetings and trainings; Maintaining accurate records/reports and documenting objectives; Promoting organizational programs and initiatives Assisting with the promotion of the program in the community and conducting outreach, Other duties as assigned Qualifications Demonstrated experience in African, Caribbean, and/or Urban Dance forms Demonstrated experience working with youth, with an emphasis on at-risk youth Demonstrated experience working with mulit-ethnic, high density, urban communities Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively Education Currently enrolled as a Senior in High School or Post –Secondary Studies Participation in community- based, private or school Dance program Experience in teaching dance, particularly Afro-Caribbean and Urban dance styles to youth is an asset Current first aid and CPR certification is an asset NOTE: This position is approximately 33.5 hrs/week Please forward your resume and cover letter to tc3_canada@hotmail Attn: Rev.
