Our Partner, Aaron Weiner formed a new charity, the Robin Hill - TopicsExpress

Our Partner, Aaron Weiner formed a new charity, the Robin Hill Community Support Foundation, to unify the Robin Hill neighborhood around the community pool and to teach life skills to the neighborhood children. The pool is located at 48th and Valley and was built in 1957. It was in dire need of some major plumbing repairs to bring it up to modern code or it was going to be abandoned. Aaron has helped raise $11,000 in funds so far with a goal of creating a substantial endowment to support the community. The charity is a necessary complement to the countless hours of real sweat equity from several dedicated families who spent the entire summer performing almost half of the pool contractor’s bid work (fortunately one of the pool members is a licensed plumber!). Volunteers repaired the pool building roof and the pool contractor, Expert Pool Work, Inc., also donated many services at cost. A great majority of the pool members paid dues even though they could not swim based upon faith that the pool would be reopened and that their dues would be credited to 2015. Many members worked several fundraising events to cover engineer and other repair expenses. The charity will help support pool revenues through subsidized swimming lessons and the provision of educational and community events at the pool. Without the charity, the pool may not have the cash flow to survive through next season or the ability to pursue a completely needed renovation of its 50 year old building. As this grand old neighborhood changes over to more young families, the charity will help neighbors get to know each other, help children learn swimming and safety, and support a venue for positive interaction. Please contact Aaron at aweiner@akclaw if you have any questions or are interested in contributing to the Foundation. robinhillpool.wildapricot.org/renovation
