Our President is at the UN saying Europe and America should help on Ebola and should not run away from the Region. What would be a CPP response if we were in Govt. When Nkrumah and the CPP established the Medical School, there were no Buildings, no labs, no disection room, no equipment, no books,and no trained basic science teachers on the ground. CPP quickly expanded Korle Bu with 4 high rise blocks - SURGICAL, MEDICAL, PEDIATRIC AND OBSTETRICS. and appointed Dr Charles Odamten Easmon, the first Ghanaian to qualify as a Surgeon in 1948, to head the SCHOOL. Dr Easmon recruited globally quickly and engaged Dr J.K.M. Quartey for Anatomy Dept, assisted by Dr E.A. Badoe. Drs Evans-Anfom, Engmann and Harold Phillips for Physiology and Dr Andoh for Biochemistry. 7 years later Ghana had its first Home trained medical Drs. Thus faced with the current crises of Ebola we would set up a team, rally the continent to pool together some financial resources, identify a Research Institute on the Continent and charge them to find a cure for Ebola. Instead current leaders always want to rely on someone else to find a solution for an African problem or indeed any problem.
