Sarwar Head of Legal & Compliance, Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh In a banking career spanning over 30 years, Sarwar has worked in various senior positions in IFIC Bank for 9 years in American Express Bank for 7 years, as Head of Compliance and Human Resources in Citibank NA for 4 years and currently working for Standard Chartered Bank for over 10 years as Head of Legal & Compliance. As HR Head in Citibank, Sarwar had managed the efficient and effective delivery of human resources services ensuring that recruitments, compensation, reward and recognition were all directly related to the successful results supporting the business strategy and the achievement of goals. In Standard Chartered he performed risk governance roles gaining core competency as a subject matter specialist in control, compliance and operational risks functions. He has embedded the governance of operational risk management process, risk escalation, assessment and the overall culture of managing the operational risks by building up a Legal & Compliance team considered the best in class in the local banking industry. Sarwar has been playing an important role as longest serving member of Country Management Committee, Country Risk Committee, Country Operational Risk Committee & Country Leadership Team in enhancing & improving the overall governance and control environment within the Bank. He has been providing strong leadership in driving to enhance & improve the overall awareness of compliance and control within the local banking industry as member of various committees of Bangladesh Bank. He is nationally recognized as accomplished trainer and presenter having delivered bespoke anti-money laundering & operational risks training to wide audiences, including bankers, Senior Government Officers, Senior Police Officers and Anti Corruption Commission Officers, Stock Exchange Brokers and NGOs. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dhaka University and obtained Masters in Management from the same University.
