Our Ryan Ferguson Release Fund has raised over $9,000 since its launch - thank you to everyone who has donated! It is really appreciated... Myself (Richard) and Mike wanted to send an update following our recent post to explain a few more details of what were trying to achieve with this fundraising campaign. I spoke with Ryan earlier today and he is very happy - but also cautious, which is of course understandable after all he has been through over the last 9 1/2 years. I told Ryan that he now has a HUGE team around him and we all have his back! In the early days of his ordeal he only had his family and a few supporters... now he has Kathleen Zellner, Erin Moriarty CBS News, the Dateline NBC team, Andrew Jenks, ABC, CNN and over 260,000 Change.org signatures and 72,000 Facebook supporters. We have an entire army fighting for Ryan. And we will never give up! The purpose of this Release Fund is to use our vast numbers to hopefully give Ryan a head start upon his release. We totally understand that people have limited resources and many are battling their own financial hardships. So our hope was that if everyone could donate just a couple of dollars - with our VAST numbers we could achieve amazing things. Instead of buying that one coffee maybe you could donate the money to Ryan instead? Or pass on that candy bar and give to Ryan? Every amount is valued and appreciated. $1, $2, $5 - collectively these donations will make a HUGE difference. And I can tell you on a personal level that when you give to a great cause it comes back to you tenfold! I know many people think Ryan will be awarded some money from the State of Missouri following his release. But we have all seen how unjust the Missouri justice system is. And any compensation could take years to come. I would not count on this outcome. When he is released - and we are all hoping this week will see this dream become a reality - Ryan will be entering a whole new world. He has no clothes. No money. No work experience. And no college education - all at the age of 29. He has never sent a text, used a smart phone, or been on Facebook. Imagine that... Fundly, the site we are using for this fundraising effort is VERY secure and will be donating resources, PR and marketing to spread the word about this great cause, which is one of the reasons it was chosen. It also allows us to publicly track totals and donations - so there is COMPLETE transparency. The site takes a tiny 3.8% processing fee. Every other cent donated will be going DIRECTLY to Ryan. So if you can help it would be wonderful. But we also understand that everyone has their own unique situations and being a supporter of this Facebook page / Ryan - is in itself appreciated and fantastic. We would never want anyone to feel obligated or in any way pressured into donating. Thank you everyone for all your AMAZING support for however long you have followed Ryans story... we would not be here now without ALL of you! Best Richard
