Our Schools received this information today: I attended last nights first SACI meeting of the year, featuring Dr. Walts. The last question of the night was about Stone Haven and 13th high school. Dr. Walts was very raised-voice in his response; I doubt anyone expected the passion about it. It was asked specifically if there was a back-up plan, and he said loudly THERE IS NO BACK-UP PLAN. He went on about the 24 million in free proffers, the fact that this has been two years in the making and why would the school system negotiate with other land possibilities when they had one, he understands concerns about commuting and more cars since his wife commutes to Fairfax County, etc. He made an in-jest negative comment about one of the supervisors asking on Tuesday night at the BOS meeting why there was no back-up plan. He called himself PRO STONE HAVEN. He said the school system needed this school two years ago, and the longer this decision takes, it is likely the opening will be pushed back a year. His honesty was appreciated. By the way, on at least three occasions, he mentioned/referenced bloggers in a negative light.
