Our Sinless Substitute Many people think it’s necessary to negotiate with God in order to be accepted by Him. They pray, “Lord, I’ll do this for You if You’ll do that for me.” But Christ has done everything necessary to fulfill any vow we could make to “better ourselves” in God’s eyes. On these terms we can come to God freely, knowing we are forgiven fully. What a joyous reality! As our sinless substitute before God, Jesus poured out His life on the Cross. Since Jesus is absolutely perfect, God sees the record of His sinless life instead of our sin and accepts us completely. Living and Praying in Jesus’ Name My dear children, I write this letter to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone sins, we have Jesus Christ to help us. He always did what was right, so he is able to defend us before God the Father. Jesus is the way our sins are taken away. And he is the way all people can have their sins taken away too.
