Our Thanksgiving is today. My contribution is the Ham and mashed - TopicsExpress

Our Thanksgiving is today. My contribution is the Ham and mashed potatoes. Eric is to bring vegetables and a salad. I have been giving cooking lessons via phone to Eric Keller. (His cooking skills are sufficient for a bachelor but not for company.) All this reminds me of being a 17 year old trying to teach myself to cook and take care of my new baby boy. I remember my FIRST meal and we invited my new mother-in-law. Fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were more like potato soup and the chicken was bloody. Later as I was trying to figure it all out in the kitchen, I would set Eric on the floor with all hand-me-down tupperware and mis-matched pots while I studied cook books and cooked. Then, when the twins were born, I added sewing to my list of skills to conquer. I made all their clothes. One bolt of fabric and every outfit made out of it. Oh yes... they were fashion misfits as infants in their homemade PJs. I taught myself to can vegetables, decorate my house, paint throw-away furniture while working 2-3 jobs. I cringe when I think of all the mistakes I made parenting; I was a child raising children. But everyday, EVERYDAY, I am THANKFUL for them all. They get mad at me and dont talk to me for sometimes years. That, is life. Good , bad and sometimes Ugly. Thank God we get to experience it ALL!
