Our Time Theatre Group are Casting for an exciting new play ‘Turn a Different Corner’ by a new writer Alan Brady for a profit share production being performed in summer/early autumn 2015 in Glasgow. Turn a Different Corner is the story of a young man, given a second chance by the legal system and his subsequent journey. Coming into close contact with four homeless people, forces him to look at, and re-assess his own life, his own attitudes and poses so many questions and new challenges. A coming of age for him, and a delve into the despair, loneliness, and isolation of being destitute. A comedic play with a musical element, with a real gritty Glaswegian feel! Character breakdown Charlie: 17-26 years old. No real personal life experience. Immature and prone to peer pressure. Typical west of Scotland male who never acknowledges or talks about feelings or emotions. Basically a decent young man who has been raised by his devoutly Catholic single parent mother. Intercom Guy: Age 30-65 years old. Of Indian parentage but a total Glasgow guy. Likes a laugh and a joke and strives to make his boring job more interesting. Will have heard his parents telling how hard life was for them as a young couple in India, so appreciates life to the full. Evelyn: Age 30-50. Hostel manager. Very moral, kind hearted and empathetic. Has to appear hard at times just to deal with the troops. Clean and sober for more than 10years. Obvious sense of gratitude surrounds her. Sadie: Age 30-50. Cleaner in the hostel. Comedy aspect of play. Constantly auditioning for X-Factor. Sings continually to imaginary judges (badly) and daydreams of getting to see Simon Cowell. Fiercely loyal and family orientated. Alice: Age 40+. Poor soul who feels the shame of how she looks and where she is in her life. Although essentially maternal and caring, she harbours a great rage in response to the cards life has dealt her. Geordie: Age 40+. Ex-soldier. Proud, angry, aggressive man. Doesnt tolerate fools easily. Carries a constant uneasiness and tension on his shoulders. No desire to integrate with society. Bernadette: Age 18-30. Fragile, untrusting, and damaged. Appears confident in order to survive, but is in reality, deeply sensitive and pained. Overly mature as a result of losing childhood and having to grow up fast. Tam: Age 40+. The wise man of the piece. Incredibly angry and bitter at the death of his daughter. Has became very philosophical and worldly as the result of his journey into the depths of despair. Prone to rants but can be paternal. Cathy: Age 35+. An emotional, nervous wreck as a result of being a single parent in a rough area. Devoutly religious, she prays constantly in the hope her son will be safe. One of lifes real strugglers, who do so in quiet resignation. The fee is on a profit share basis, all profits will be split between the company Rehearsal Dates are to be decided Auditions will be on the 18th of January from 2-6pm in Glasgow. Please fwd CV and photo and Character you would like to audition for in the Subject Box.
