Our Troops Abroad and Their Special Experiences with Birds: Web visitors submit images on a daily basis, and some with articles. We appreciate it and welcome hearing from them. But there are few encounters that we deemed special because they came from our troops abroad as they were serving our country under hazardous and difficult conditions. Their submissions brought a tear or two to our eyes as we realize how much they give up and were glad that they found enjoyment in our featured creatures. Here are few: V/R MC2 Maddelin Angebrand JTF-PAO Wire Staff Photojournalist and fellow Navy service members serving at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba (July 15, 2011) came across an Antillean Nighthawk, and wrote an article and published photos of their experience. avianweb/antilleannighthawkincuba.html 1SG Douglas W McNeil who was stationed in Iraq discovered a clutch of barn owl chicks while inspecting a bunker. He provided us some images: avianweb/barnowlsiniraq.html Christopher Baldwin - who served in Okinawa, Japan – sent us a photo of this “funny-looking” duck. He wondered what it was. We identified it as the South American Muscovy Duck (a duck that is making its round globally, it appears!). avianweb/muscovyduckfacts.html In midst difficult times, our feathered friends managed to put a smile on our Troops’ faces.
