Our (Vietnamese) people heartily long for PEACE. But ... 30 Tháng 5 2011 lúc 4:55 We, Vietnamese people, always respect Chinese people and culture, but we must say that the Chinese government has seriously and flagrantly violated Vietnam’s sea sovereignty on 26 May, 2011 (see pictures below). More than anyone else, we know the price we had to pay by the two patriotic wars in the 20th century to have peace today. More than anyone else, WE REALLY NEED, REALLY WANT TO LIVE IN PEACE. As a small, still developing country, we are NOT TOO STUPID to infringe upon other countries’ territories, particularly those of China, a superpower in the world whose area and population are several tens of times bigger than ours. We feel happy for the development of China, and always want to cooperate, to be friends on the basis of mutual respect. Simultaneously, we know what belongs to us and will defend our territorial sovereignty to the end if it is encroached upon. We, Vietnamese people, still remember that: Back to 65 years ago, in November 1946, after nearly one year declaring National Independence, President Ho Chi Minh wrote an appeal to the United Nations, emphasising that “Our (Vietnamese) people heartily long for peace. But our people also resolutely fight to the death to protect the most sacred rights: territorial integrity and national independence.” He also declared the main principles of Vietnam’s foreign policy: Vietnam respects the independence of its neighbors and looks forward to working with sovereign countries on the basis of absolute equality; Vietnam is ready to implement the open door policies and to cooperate with democratic countries in all fields. Finally, he urged the United Nations to help restore peace in Vietnam, so that the Atlantic Charter is respected and Vietnam’s basic rights, which are national independence and territorial integrity, are restored.” General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, Sunday delivered a speech at the fifth plenary session of the Shangri-La Dialogue (June 6, 2011, Singapore), stating that Vietnam ’s defence policies are directed at peace and self-defence. “Vietnam has exercised patience in managing the incident with peaceful means in accordance with the international laws and the principle of determinedly protecting our national sovereignty while preserving peace and stability in the East Sea, and maintaining the friendly relationship with neighbouring countries. Certainly, we truly expect no repetition of similar incidents,” the Minister emphasised. The red rectangle in the first picture and the circle with a dot inside in the second one indicate the place at which 3 China Marine Surveillance ships flagrantly violated the sovereignty of Vietnam and cut the oil exploring cables of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) at 5:58am. The violation VietNam sovereignty took place in an area called Block 148 about 120 km (80 miles) off the south-central coast of Vietnam from the beach town of Nha Trang, which lie totally within the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam. The Law of the Sea Convention defines the rights and responsibilities of nations in their use of the worlds oceans as the GREEN LINES in case of the South East Pacific ocean. However, Chinese government defined its as the RED LINE. China and Viet Nam are the two of 157 members of UNCLOS (The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea -1982). Chinese naval ship No.84, one of threes violated Vietnams territorial waters There are a lot of ancient documents which affirm the Sovereignty of Vietnam over the Paracel islands that has been invaded and occupied by Chinese government since 1974. This picture shows one of them. The document is 175 years old. It has been preserved by a family in Quang Ngai province of Vietnam and just been discovered on April 3, 2009. China gov. invaded Spratly islands of Vietnam real footage 1988 Spratly islands lie at a distance of over 1000 km far from the undermost Chinese coast at Hainan island. In this video, we could see that the VietNamese sailors were standing on the reefs on which the water level covers the half of their bodies, seting up commanding positions along edge of the reefs to lay the defending lines and try to prevent the Chinese navy from advancing forward. Seen from the air, they formed a circle around two Vietnamese flags which had been already planted as reaffirmation of Vietnams sovereignty . The Vietnamese defenders were absolutely outnumbered by Chinese troops and they were not enough powerful to confront the Chinese and did not advocate escalating the conflict. Just because Vietnamese navy had refused to withdraw from the reef, the Chinese soldiers then used battleships for firing with 37 mm directly on the unarmed and light armed Vietnamese sailors on the reefs who were not able to attack them in their defending positions. They also fired with 100mm gun on the three Vietnamese transport ships and seriously damaged them, until two of them sank. 64 Vietnamese sailors and officers lost their lives, among them were only 3 corpse were found after the end of battle,61 other persons still missed and reputedly dead. The China government claimed of their own casualties: 6 killed and 21 injured in combat. The red-lined asterisk indicates the place, at 80248 N - 1080525 (Vietnam’s southern continental shelf), where the VietNam ship named Viking 2 was harassed by 2 foreign vessels from 7:15 am to 8:30 am on May 31. One of them bears the words “FEI SHENG No. 16” (probably Chinese) on its body. When two strange ships appeared, though Viking 2 communicated to them in both Vietnamese and English, they did not reply. Vietnamese foreign ministry’s spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga told a press conference in Hanoi Thursday afternoon that the three Chinese ships cruised over the Viking 2’s prow and sped up when the Vietnamese ship was conducting seismic surveys. Although Viking 2 fired warning signals, the 6226 intentionally entered Vietnamese exploration area.
