Our beautiful staffy girl Angel is now up for adoption. Read about her below: Angel is a typical 1 year old staffy with bags of energy and endless amounts of love to offer her new owner. She is looking for a new home after she was said to have been found straying by a member of the public who cared for her for a few weeks before signing her over to the RSPCA. Angel was in a pitiful state, under weight and was suffering from an ear infection and a very dry, flaky coat. She has been in our care for a few weeks and is now in tip top condition and ready to find an active owner who is looking for a buddy to play with! Once she has bonded with you Angel will love you forever. She is a playful and affectionate girl who loves nothing more than tearing round our paddock chasing toys or curling up on the sofa with us having cuddles. However, it does take her a while to trust people. When she first arrived she was very vocal towards our staff and would bark to keep people at a distance, but once she saw treats in our hands and heard a few encouraging words she was quickly won over. Now she is settled into our care she is a lot more confident around strangers and as long as people approach her sensibly she is happy to make friends. It is only when people rush over, or make a fuss to greet her, that she will try and retreat or bark. Angel’s favourite thing to do is play; she loves leaping on top of tennis balls to make them stop and then running around in circles with them in her mouth. She is very good at entertaining herself and as long as you have a large supply of tennis balls then she can be kept happy for hours. As well as balls she also enjoys treat games where she has to work out the puzzle to get the food. She really is very good at anything food related! Due to her enjoyment of treats she will be very easy to train. She already knows sit and paw and has almost mastered down. We would encourage any prospective owners to take her to a training class, such as kennel club bronze award, as we know she would excel in every department as she is very bright indeed. Angel has come from a home with two small dogs but we are unsure how much socialisation she has had with dogs before this point. Currently, when she sees another dog she tends to get really excited and pulls towards them to meet them but her eagerness and lack of manners doesn’t win her too many friends. Once her initial excitement has subsided then she relaxes and starts play bowing and tail wagging but reaching this stage can take a while so we are looking for a home with no other pets. Training classes will help her get used to being around other dogs on lead and if there are any tolerant dogs owned by friends or family then frequent interaction with them would help teach her to remain calm in their company. Angel is a gentle girl who can be very well mannered when calm but like all staffies, during those first 15 minutes in a morning, she can be a bit too boisterous for someone not used to the breed, as she does race around our paddock at 100 mph like a romping donkey! Once she has relaxed from her initial excitement she rarely jumps up or mouths but she would quickly start if wound up, so we are looking for a home with no children (16+) and with sensible owners who know not to encourage certain behaviours. Out on walks Angel is very well mannered. She does pull a little on lead but on her harness she just trots happily ahead. She happily walks past passing cars and through residential areas so she has been used to going for walks before but she is uneasy around joggers and has been known to bark at them out of fear. We tend to stick to quiet streets and would advise keeping her on lead in case someone was to spook her. A quiet home with a good sized, fully enclosed garden would be ideal for Angel; she does need a secure area to burn off all that extra energy in a morning so that she can spend her afternoons curled up in front of the TV. As she is so young and eager to please she will be an extremely rewarding dog for someone willing to put in the time and effort she needs.
