Our behavior. In psychology class, I am learning many things about human behavior; one that has been standing out to be for the past week is the “nature-nurture problem”. I’m simple terms, it asks the question, is our behavior mostly or entirely affected by our surroundings such as family and home environment or is behavior determined by our heredity? This really had me thinking and took me back to the crimes i committed as a minor. From what i can remember, my childhood life was pretty good. Just as with any family, there were “stressors” like marital issues, child “enemys”, and a crap load of hormones. Their was nothing abnormal and surely nothing that served as a plausible equation to set my future as a criminal one. My parents were great parents who did everything in their power to insure my health, happiness and understanding of the society in which we live. They gave me a childhood as a child but also with a mature perspective of how the world works. My mother worked mostly as a waitress; earning under minimum wage and “working hard for her money” (tips). My father worked as a mechanic and made great money in the 90’s, before the fall of the economy. They both, as with everyone else i knew in my family, had healthy personalities (for the most part). So what led me down a road of crime? Im leaning more towards environment rather than heredity; not the environment i grew up in as a child but more so the environment of high school, peer pressure, deception of a lover, and a series of events that can easily spiral a person out of control and lead them to doing things they normally wouldnt. For me, the “nature-nurture issue” is an issue that may not be answered any time soon. Our behavior is simply to complex to be contributed to one specific cause or origin.Any way, this was just an issue i had to write about, otherwise it would have bounced through my head, haunting me from now to the end of eternity. Thank you for being my source of mental relief, and as always, thanks for reading
