Our beloved Gretta left us abruptly last night. The photo on the left was serendipitously taken yesterday, the one on the right shows her in her younger years out for a family walk. That insidious disease, hemangiosarcoma, would steal from us again. Gretta came to us as a completely unsocialized 7 month old pup. AT the time we were fostering her, until several failed homes revealed that her hard-won comfort was only with us. As with so many other shy/feral dogs, Megan was her light in the darkness. Gretta loved her people with an intensity borne partly of her breed, and partly from her frightening puppy-hood, locked in a barn alone by a breederduring her most formative months. Her response was to cling fiercely to her people, so she was with us every day of her life. That was the blessing that meant she was with us when her life was cut short. She tore our hearts from our bodies when she breathed her last breath last night. Thank you to those who crossed her path, because to know her was to love her, and you helped enrich her life! We were given a great gift to have known Gretta (pronounced Grayta--she loved that pronunciation!).
