Our best resources for patient services, support groups, patient programs & financial assistance are our local cancer centers, hospitals & local charitable organizations. So when you want to help someone or donate somewhere...Work, donate, & build LOCALLY. If donating to research is your main priority-most local Cancer Centers have research programs & would welcome the support.(You can even do fund raisers for them under their non-profit umbrellas.) If helping people that are struggling is what you want to do-Give directly to them. (no, you will not get the tax write off but you will know your money went directly to helping someone-which is NOT the case when you donate to an organization on their behalf). This may require more effort than writing out that check for 20 bucks to a big name Charity, but you will know exactly where your money is going. The support & programs we establish in our communities today, will provide the foundation for many services we are lacking...and is the best way to advocate too! Did I mention work locally ? Local, Local, Local!
