Our birthday is in 2 days, well be reposting the links to our favourite fundraisers. Thanks to Team Diamant members weve helped complete one fundraiser which resulted in a little boy getting a necessary medical device. Can we do more? In lieu of gifts were asking for friends and family to make a donation to one or both fundraisers. Any amount will help, as little as two dollars can make a difference in the lives of those who need help. J and I were in a place once where asking for help was difficult, but we reached out and friends and strangers helped give us a new life. In turn we want to do the same for others. Someone asked me Why worry about someone else? You should worry about your own needs. my reply was : I have a good life thanks to the help of others getting me back on my feet, and my needs are met.- We have a problem in this world where if it doesnt directly affect us, we dont think about it. Were taught to instantly distrust anyone who is asking for help, make laws against feeding the homeless, blaming them for their lot in life, as a former homeless person I can tell you no matter how secure you feel all of us are one step away from homelessness, hunger and medical issues. Asking for help is seen as something to be ashamed of, working a low paying job,something to be mocked. My father had double degrees in political science and yet had to work fast food jobs when the job market failed, just to keep us fed as children. So Lets turn it around, when someone reaches out because they are at the end of their rope, dont slap their hand, give them yours. Many many-many years ago I was a very devout Catholic wanting to take holy orders(was talked out of it by friends who didnt want me to give up my writing), I may not be that religious any longer, but I still believe in Hope and Charity. Believe me there was a long discussion about us donating our gifts, you know birthdays are fun and money is always nice. But J said Weve been selfish over Christmas, lets do this.. Next time someone criticizes me for giving money to a cause I believe in, my short answer will be Oh, Im just going for Sainthood. ;) because any other explanation just isnt good enough to convince them.
