Our cats love the cardboard scratchers (the cheap ones that you buy at Wal Mart, that fall apart the first day and get cat nip all over the house), but I wanted to invest in something sturdier. We bought them the only other option our Wal Mart had, which is a post with a plush covered base and sea grass wrapped around it. It even has a couple of toys on it, the little fuzzy ball on a spring and the two fuzzy balls hanging from the top like fuzzy dice, and we bought cat nip spray to attract them. They want nothing to do with it. It just sits there and trips me no matter where I put it. We even rubbed dry cat nip on it, but they dont care. The only one that uses it for anything is our Boxer who tries to sleep on the tiny little base, but he will try to sleep on a dish cloth, even though he has many beds to choose from. Is there a way to teach them to use the more permanent one? Or what type of scratching posts/materials do your cats like most? I love my cats and dont mind investing money in them, but I dont have a lot of money to spend on things that they wont use. I would have thought that at least one out of the five would use this thing, but over a week later, they are still ignoring it. PS, we do trim their nails and tried Soft Paws, but their nails seem to grow really fast and the Soft Paws had their own problems.
