Our church service today at UU Church of Charlotte was awesome..centered around the words of Amos, a simple herdsman and fig farmer,"But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream." The music was riveting, opening with the choir singing "Freedom Come". We heard about mission trips and volunteer work that congregants of all ages have been involved in throughout the year. Each person brought a small container of water representing a specific concern about justice in our state, nation and world. At various times in the service we each went forward and poured our water into a common urn ..symbolizing what we can do when we work together as community to achieve love and peace and equality and justice for all. The offertory was "Deep River" and we closed with a very emotional prayer by our minister and "We Shall Overcome."
