Our concept of love, from our western-inspired, Greco-Roman - TopicsExpress

Our concept of love, from our western-inspired, Greco-Roman culture, is abstract, a feeling we have towards someone. This is not so from the Hebraic perspective (which I stduied this morning). In Hebrew, this word is a concrete word, an action word. This is the definition of love in the Hebrew language, to provide for and protect what is given as a priviledge. We know that every good and perfect gift comes from God. We do not only have to provide for and protect our wives, children, relatives, Christian believers, but also those who are not yet in the Kingdom of God. Love your enemy was given to us by the LORD Jesus. This shouldnt be limited to an abstract, forceful, self-convincing feeling of goodness towards those we seem not to love. An action has to flow--provide for when he/she seems to be in need. Protect him/her from danger. Its a priviledge to have them around us. That IS WHAT LOVE IS. IT IS ACTION!
