Our departure to the States is just a few hours away. We stayed at a Marriott by the airport last night to ease our transition back to the real world. At least thats what we told ourselves. As I sit and contemplate our month here, I strongly believe that each of Communities we touched were left with a positive impact from our efforts and a favorable impression of our students. As a group, I feel we gained as much as the communities we served. I witnessed each of the students grow and mature not only as students but also as global citizens. Mark Twain once said that travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-minded ness ... I strongly embrace that concept. Given all the problems the world is now experiencing from Israel to Syria to our fellow Americans fighting the Ebola virus after volunteering their skills to assist those in need, I believe this group of students is ready to take on the pressing issues of our planet and forge a new path for their generation. As Americans, let us be mindful that our gift of citizenship comes with responsibilities.
