Our devotion for today Title: Love God, Not Money! Text: Ecclesiastes 5: 10 Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. Money is good but we are not called to love it. With it, so much good can be achieved yet it can also corrupt our soul entirely till we neither fear God nor care about mankind. Many of us that have had a difficult background of lack and poverty, tend to equate, or rather, reduce the blessings of God only to riches. The assumption is that, the more Rich we are, the more blessed we are by God. We are therefore never content with the provisions of God. We are rather likely to pull more strings and cut corners to get much more so we can prove how blessed we are. Riches are only a minor component of Gods blessings. It is rather the blessing of the Lord that maketh rich (Prov 10: 22). Apostle Paul warns that those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For, the love of money, is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Tim 6: 9-10) Brethren, ours is to love God with all our hearts and work diligently. Honestly, lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. (Prov 10: 4). When the focus and attention is on trusting God and hardwork, we get supplies from the abundance of His household and our needs are met. We get satisfied with what we have and look to Him to give more in due season. However, if we love money more than we do love God, we never seem to have enough. We remain covetous and dissatisfied until our discontentment has led to harmful desires that plunge people into destruction. Lets pray Father, we thank you for your word this morning. We ask for grace to seek first your kingdom and its righteousness so that all other things will be added unto us. Amen!
