Our earlier post today mentioned how many owner surrenders are coming into the shelter. Many asked why do dogs get surrendered, there are many reasons, the most famous one we are moving and just cant take them with us Yet the most heartbreaking senior special ( as we call it!!) is I just dont have the time the time for him/her anymore these are usually dogs aged 9-15 yrs old who can hardly see or walk!! Roscoe was probably the saddest case to date, if I had a sedative in my pocket I would have given it to him. This 10lb Chi was surrendered because he ran too fast around the owners fenced in yard! But wait it gets better... Tilly the 6lb Chi didnt eat the dog food her new owners had bought for her! The staff explained to her owners that she may not like the brand and to mix in a little wet food, but no they decided to leave her! We never intended to bring three dogs home today, our fosters already have dogs or will be picking up their dogs leaving the shelter tomorrow. So we had no choice but to make some frantic calls to find a place for these three to stay. I cant tell you how many we had to leave behind that came in just today. The staff were showing us dogs and asking could we also take them. We hated to say the words we have no where to put them. There was a public outcry over the amount to cats and dogs being euthanized, we not only rescue, but volunteer at the Augusta Shelter, we see the what the shelter staff are up against. The shelter is around 128 animals over full capacity. With every kennel housing many dogs and an intake from today alone, there is NOWHERE to put anyone! We are committed to keep working with the shelter staff to save as many as we can. We need your help... We need short term fosters, we need people to adopt, we need people to share our page so we can get their faces seen far and wide. Together we can make a difference. This Saturday will be a celebration of our first local adoption event at Petco ( Evans, GA). At 10am we will be rolling out the first group that are available for adoption. All we ask is share this event to your friends and family.
