Our effort wasted by voted in such government. Penang govt urged to clarify land sale News 2014-10-24 17:01 GEORGE TOWN, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- A retiree has claimed that the state government has not been transparent in its administration when it sold a piece of land 2.1 metres by 21.3 metres by the main road to a house owner. Chan Eng Keat, 59, claimed that the state government and the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) should explain the sale of the land by the main road in Solok Samagagah, Permatang Pauh, to a house owner to extend his house. The main road reserve belonged to the state government and could not be easily sold to individuals for private use and to extend their homes as it would cause traffic congestion in the event of fire, he told reporters here today. Chan, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years, said he was disappointed because the state government had not taken any action even though a complaint was made in 2011. He said the complaint was made because his neighbour had made an extension to the structure of the house right up to the main road and he was shocked to find out that the land had been sold to him by the state government. The state government and the land office must explain why the land by the main road was sold and why the owner of the house was accorded the special right, said Chan. Meanwhile, advisor of the Penang Public Service and Complaints Bureau, Lim Thoon Deong, said a complaint was made to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in March this year. He said the complaint was made because Chan claimed that the case had elements of abuse of power by certain parties and he had proof to show that the issue had not been handled transparently and professionally by the MPSP, involving two of the council members.
