Our end of term Newsletter has come out, so here it is: Thank you all for another fantastic term. This term we managed to fit in a lot of activities that enhanced the children’s learning and brought together our families/whānau. We have had Story Telling week, ending with an acting group coming in and sharing “The Pond”. Sign language week; highlighting and teaching everyone more sign. Samoan language week; where the children and teachers have learnt and added song and counting in Samoan, for everyday use. We celebrated Matariki by visiting Maoribank School and watching their fabulous Kapa Haka group, and then our tamariki shared our waiata with them. At the end of Matariki Week everyone brought in a vegetable and we cooked these for our delicious shared feast. We participated with Maori language week, where we continued focusing on pronunciation and using Te Reo alongside English, as well as sign language. The End of Term Disco was a huge success, and I can tell you all we had a ball!!! We raised $267.50, and this money will be used to purchase new magnetic shape sets. Thank you to everyone who supported us by coming to the Disco. A special mention of thanks goes out to Kate (Rose’s mum) for all her help with the decorations, setting up, selling food and drinks and cleaning up after. Thanks also to Channi (Chelsea’s mum) and Megan (Joseph and Jaden’s mum) for their help setting up and cleaning up at the end of the night. Watch out for our Term 3 Events list, which will be out in the first week of next term. Thank you kindly to those of you who have added your name to the Parent Help and the End of Term Cleaning roster. It’s great to have you here helping out. Haere pai atu, hoki pai ma ... travel safely and return safely, kia pai tō rā whakatā … have a good break. The last day of this term is this Thursday, the 11th of July for our afternoon session and Friday, the 12th July for the morning session. Deb, Sam, Jane, Soreen, and Dhanaye Our Session Times Are: Morning Session: Afternoon Session: 8.20am to 12.30 pm 1.30pm to 3.30 pm Please drop off no earlier than the start times and please pick up no later than the finish times, this is vital as often we are setting up, discussing confidential information, planning or rushing off to meetings. Term 3 Dates: First Day of Term: Monday 29th July Last day of Term: Friday 27th September During the holiday break we are attending Professional Development Courses, as well as presenting a workshop on our Research Project; “How are our Assessment Practices Informing Our Parents/Whānau about their Child as a 21st Century Learner?” for the Rimutaka Kindergarten Association Conference. Please: • Check the lost property boxes before the end of this week, as we will be bagging any unclaimed clothing and donating it to charity. • Clear art folders and notice pockets. Our Philosophy Tree: Manaakitanga (Respect): Respect is the air and nutrients around our tree. It is what makes it grow strong. Without respect the other qualities, Communication, Creativity, Confidence, Being Friends and Problem Solving, cannot exist. Whāia te iti kahurangi Ki te tūohu koe, me he maunga teitei Pursue excellence - should you stumble, let it be to a lofty mountain. Help with Supplies: Our breakfast mornings have now finished for the year. Thank you to all who supported this, without your kind donations this would not have been possible. We also need clean empty plastic soda bottles for our Civil Defence kit. If you have any empty Coke, Lemonade, etc bottles lying around, feel free to bring them here but no milk bottles please. Did you know? Research shows that investing in high quality ECE (Early Childhood Education) makes a lifelong difference to children’s educational, social and economic outcomes - especially for our most vulnerable children.
