Our faith gets tested daily - and Im not explicitly talking about religious faith. But given that today represents such a global symbol of faith, I sit in my living room in intense reflection over the events of the last few days. In tragedy and in our scariest moments, we have to find a way to re-calibrate ourselves and move forward. Scripture tells us that this is the very reason for the crucifixion and resurrection. Nature shows us through is resilience - by the sprouting and splashes of green we see across the city after one of our harshest winters. Even if youre not a believer, the season symbolizes new beginnings. Begin to invest in knowing and taking care of your community. Begin to engage in self-care. Begin making societal problems your problem, because we all need to be the solution. Especially in Chicago, where the violence in our communities is killing our spirit and becoming fodder for posturing politicians that will sell this city to the highest bidder. In that spirit, on this first, really, truly beautiful day of the year, Im going to enjoy a day with friends, family, and friends who are family. Im going play with dogs, eat good food, and make sure that my baby laughs a lot. Im going to clear my head of the what could I have done better or differently because it doesnt serve to uplift. Instead Im going to ask myself, what am I going to do better and differently? Happy Easter.
