Our field trips to Bishops Farm this week, The students were able to practice milking, learn how the following crops grow: tomatoes, cucumbers, dill, wheat, lettuce, mustard greens, onions, and potatoes. The children even got to dig up potatoes. They saw laying hens for eggs, dairy cow for milk and cheese, beef cattle, and an active bee hive to learn about pollenating crops. The students got to see where their food comes from and how it grows. In this day and age when parents are looking for fresh, local foods it is nice when children can see food growing fresh and local, and have an answer other than the grocery store when asked where food comes from.
