Our friends from the Grand Forks trail society have been developing a proposal on paving the Grand Forks section of the Trans-Canada Trail. With a recent announcement from the society the trail will be closer to becoming a reality this year, The City of G.F. approved Phase 1 from 68th to the Nursery Trestle and will be paved this Fall thanks to the vision and leadership of Grand Forks City Council and the (Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) John Hawkings Trail Manager. Mr Hawkings is prepared to allocate an additional $50,000 to complete the Phase 1 paving project from 68th to Nursery Trestle. This project enjoys a broad range of community support: “ The City of Grand Forks believes that the … paving project will have a profound benefit for our community. It will provide a safe alternative to travel on Highway 3; it will give access to the river,…. And provide substantial opportunities for quality outdoor recreation for people of all ages.” – Brian Taylor, Mayor of Grand Forks “Paving the Trans Canada Trail from Grand Forks to the Cascade Trestle at Christina Lake is a project that just makes sense… The opportunities for tourism activities both for individuals and those who are thinking of starting a business are endless.” – Dennis Thome “This project will support an active and healthy community in touch with their beautiful natural surroundings… Imagine a whole new group of riders having access to this, a safe place for the entire family to get out and share…” – Nipper Kettle, Mayor of Greenwood “I just read that you are thinking of paving the trail to Christina Lake.
