We loved it then and we love it more now. Watch a young Tom Cruise try to stop The Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry who brings something of his Pennywise the clown to the role) from bringing about an age of eternal night (yup a kids movie) while also macking on his girlfriend! This movie is SOOOO good and all family films should be this dark and terrifying. Misunderstood at the time of release due to the film’s relentlessly dark tone, it has since gone on to acclaim and is now considered by fans of the books to be closer to L. Frank Baum’s vision than any other iterations of Oz. We dont know about any of that but what we do know is that this film caught us completely unawares revealing Dorothy to be a possible psychotic receiving shock treatment for her delusional states, introducing us to The Wheelers and witches who kept a stock of removable heads in a dresser.
