Our guests requested to see elephants on the morning drive - and so we tried to oblige - we sat for an hour in the middle of two herds (BLUE/BROWN) of elephant - one of the matriarchs had just given birth - our guests were blown away by the grey ladies - then in the afternoon we had three herds come together on the plains in front of the lodge (which is very unusual) - YELLOW, NOSE and BITE/SHEENA - it was as if they had come to see and show off the three new calves that had just been born - one of the calves still had the umbilical cord attached - it was the most amazing and awe striking sighting - the little calf was trying so hard to suckle but its older brother wasnt having any of it- eventually KIMMY brought her new born up to the vehicle and the calf started suckling - this is how relaxed they were - all the time they were talking to each other and smelling, saying hello to each other, checking out all the new borns - it was as if we had been transported into elephant land - everything else was forgotten for two hours while these elephants went about their business around the vehicle - of course TATTERS was in attendance and wanted to say hello to the vehicle - but a stern NO sent him on his way - this sighting will never be forgotten
