Our hurdles to home infusion...It was 4 weeks ago today that Kamden had his last infusion in Seattle. It was also the day our Genzyme Rep (Rose) called me to explain the process of setting up home infusions and where they were at. We were in touch almost daily/every other day. They found a pharmacy right away and started the process only to find out that pharmacy couldnt arrange home nursing care. So Rose found one that could, Caremark Pharmacy. They had insurance approval fairly quickly with no issues. The next hurdle was that Kam is underage for home infusions (per this company-under 5 yrs is underage). So that took at least a week of our dr/NP and rep emailing with the director of Caremark to get approval from him for Kam to get infusions at home. Once we got that approval they continued working on finding a local nursing place to perform the infusions. Thats our hang up. Apparently theyve tried over 50 places and theyve all said no. As of Friday (and yesterday the nursing co rep was off work) were waiting to hear back from one last nursing place to get their answer. If they say no, then Rose is going to dig deeper and find out what the problems are for that many places to have said no. I said we didnt have to have in home care, that Id go to an infusion center or the hospital but apparently that wont be any quicker and will add more steps. Meanwhile, Kamdens NP has said its fine that hes gone this long and she doesnt want us to have to come back to Seattle. I have volunteered to go back to Seattle and if we dont have anything set by tomorrow Ill be demanding we go this week. **update-as I was posting this I got the call from Caremark that theyre shipping the drug today to be delivered tomorrow and the nursing company will be in touch shortly to arrange infusion day!**
