LUKULU COMMUNITY RADIO STATION P.o Box 950098 LUKULU E-mail: lukulufm@gmail THE PARTRIOTIC FRONT CHAIRPERSON LUKULU DISTRICT Dear sir/madam Ref: COMPLAINT AGAINST VIOLENCE AND INTERFERRNCE BY YOUR PARTY CARDERS. I am writing on behalf of Lukulu FM Radio to bring to your attention the violence which your party cadres unleashed on us today (4th January, 2015). Your carders, pregnant with anger, violence ,hatred and discrimination stormed our studios and threatened to beat our staff for airing a paid for advertisement by the United Party for National Development( UPND).They also falsely accused us of being members of the UPND and Linyungandambo. I wish to state that the thuggish behavior by your carders is an affront to democracy and will not take them anywhere. Political parties including yours are free to air their advertisements on Lukulu Fm Community Radio station. At no time have we refused to air any of your advertisements and I challenge your party to pay for any advertisements and see if we will refuse to air them. I further wish to state that Lukulu Fm Radio is an independent and non political radio station that does not subscribe to the ideologies of any political party Therefore, the violent behavior being portrayed by your carders is unacceptable as it has the potential to plunge the whole frame of our society into serious chaos if left unchecked. An independent media, like ours, is the oxygen of democracy and any efforts to gag us amounts to dictatorship on your part. I am appalled that your party is practicing politics of hatred, fear, tribalism and violence. I am sad that your party is bent on turning freedom of expression into just a rumour. It is disheartening that your party is teaching young people to be violent and intolerant. Your carders should have listened to their voices of conscience and heeded the stings of remorse before urging their violence and criminality on innocent media personnel. The bunch of Patriotic Front carders who today stormed lukulu Fm studios should have known that article 20(1) of the Zambian constitution protects freedom of expression before resorting to their sprouting rants of high toned lies. Having said the above, I appeal to your party to show leadership thereby mentoring your carders to be tolerant, peaceful, and righteous and focused on real issues affecting the neglected, rejected and dejected people of lukulu district. Your party must also abstain from making inflammatory statements and attacking innocent journalists as this will not be taken lightly. In the light of the above, we demand that your party apologizes to the radio station management for the criminal behavior of its carders failure to which we will take action.
