A cataract is the most common cause of blindness in humans and is conventionally treated with surgery. A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed or cleaned out & replaced with a man made lens. Under local anesthesia, a surgeon makes a small opening on the side of your cornea. A device that sends out ultra sound vibrations is inserted into the eye & breaks the lens into small pieces. The fragments are then removed via suction through the small cut in the eye.
