COLLINS CAMPAIGN RELEASES NEW AD – “JOBS” Job training funding a key component of Senator’s seven-point jobs plan PORTLAND – The Collins for Senator campaign today released a new ad, titled “Jobs.” The ad gives examples of critical job training programs that Senator Collins has secured funding for across Maine, including the Radiologic Training program at Kennebec Valley Community College, the Advanced Structures & Composites Center at the University of Maine, the Trades Apprenticeship Program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, and the Precision Metals Manufacturing Program at Northern Maine Community College. “When our students graduate, they’re ready to work on state-of-the-art equipment,” said Dean Duplessis, Precision Machining Instructor at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle. “There’s a phenomenal demand for that. Sky’s the limit for these students because of the opportunities Senator Collins provided.” Senator Collins’ focus on job training is a key component in her “Seven-Point Plan to Create Jobs and Help Small Business Grow.” Senator Collins’ plan is based on extensive consultation with small business owners and workers in Maine. The plan recognizes that small businesses are our job creators, and includes several provisions to help small businesses start-up, grow, and prosper. While each state has its own particular opportunities and challenges, the fundamentals of a jobs-oriented economic recovery are similar everywhere throughout the country. Senator Collins’ plan would: • Build a 21st Century workforce by ensuring that workers get the education and training they need to compete in the global economy. • Reform the tax code to reduce the tax burden on small businesses - freeing up capital that they need to invest, grow, and add jobs. • Stop tying up our job creators with red tape. • Improve the efficiency and reliability of the nations transportation system. • Encourage innovation in Maines natural resource-based economy, including renewable energy technologies. • Support family farms, which are the cornerstone of the economy in much of Maine. • Continue support of Maines manufacturing industry, which employs thousands of workers all across the state - from New Balance in Skowhegan, Norridgewock, and Norway to the talented and dedicated men and women at Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, and Bath Iron Works. “Few issues are as important to the people of Maine as the availability of good jobs in our communities,” Senator Collins said. “I have met with many business owners in Maine who have jobs available but cannot find qualified and trained workers to fill these vacant positions. Investing in these job training programs will better align the needs of our employers with potential employees, and promote hiring and the creation of new, good-paying jobs.” ##
