Our little cabbage patch baby! :) So yesterday we received our medicaid approval letter for Brynn. Initially, we had a hard time deciding whether or not we were going to try to get her on medicaid. Our original thoughts were that we hated how many people milk the system and that this is our daughter and regardless of any medical diagnosis, we were going to take care of her just the same as any other child. Then when all the medical bills started rolling in, we were overwhelmed. We pay over $300 a month just in payment plans on these bills. We were talking to some friends about the whole thing...to get her medicaid or not. They told us your daughter is what this sort of assistance was created for, not all these people who are just too lazy to go out and work for themselves. Then talking with other DS parents, it was apparent that it would be in Brynns best interest to get her on medicaid. When we first applied, she was denied because she has too many resources. Never knew that being married, having a reliable job, owning a house and reliable cars was a bad thing. Anyway, we decided to apply for the medicaid waiver for Brynn. This way she qualifies for herself with her diagnosis and they cant use parental income or resources against her. We put her on the waiting list for the waiver back in November and she just recently came off it. So we had to jump through a couple more hoops but it is safe to say, Brynn now has medicaid as a secondary insurance, which Im really hoping will take the sting off all these specialist appointments.
