Our little coffee business has gotten a lot of wonderful publicity during the past year. This article in the current issue of Cancer Today talks about John going through cancer treatment while we worked on opening the shop. We could not have done this without the help of so many wonderful people. As the article mentions, early on, we kept Johns diagnosis a secret because we didnt want to give our customers any reason to think they couldnt rely on us. It was a big mistake. No one can get through a major illness without help, and it was much easier to bear with our friends at our side. So, we have news to share. We won an important battle in this war last week; John had a followup colonoscopy (No, theyre not fun. If youre due for one, get it anyway.) There was no sign of any cancer. It was wonderful news. But cancer does not fight fair and the battle continues. John was hospitalized Monday with a blood clot in his lung - possibly from the port that was implanted for chemotherapy - and congestive heart failure. He is home from the hospital and doing everything the doctors are telling him to do, including taking it easy. (Thats tough for him!) You might not see him at the shop much in the next few weeks - he has three doctors appointments on Monday alone - but he is staying on top of things. We have the support of our wonderful family, our amazing staff and customers we truly consider our friends, and we will get through this!
